WTKO Summer Camp 2025 - England, Norwich

After a successful trip to the Summer Camp in Portugal in July, where our group’s commitment to their karate and the camaraderie was recognised by all of the senior instructors, we have been given the honour of hosting next year’s summer camp.

This is an amazing opportunity, and underpins our ethos of team spirit and dedication to karate whilst giving the world the chance to visit our fine city

.Huge congratulations to Alex, who successfully passed his Shodan (1st Dan).

Alex was thoroughly tested on all aspects of his karate, including Bunkai on both his Sentei and Tokui kata. The panel’s decision to pass him was unanimous - a testament to how hard he worked in the lead up to today.

The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Sharon Hockaday 3rd Dan, Simon West 3rd Dan, Nat West 3rd Dan and Lily Holden 3rd Dan.

We are delighted to announce that Shotokan Karate Norwich has gained 3 new Shodans and 1 new Nidan. The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Sharon Hockaday 3rd Dan, Lily Holden 3rd Dan & Adrian Wise 2nd Dan with a unanimous decision easily reached. Each student who tested today has shown the commitment and dedication required to pass their grading at such a high standard.

We were once again delighted to host WTKO Chief Instructor Sensei Richard Amos 8th Dan.

We would like to thank Richard Sensei who took time out of his busy international schedule to deliver a wonderful 2 hour class. The first hour was dedicated to Kihon with the second hour focussed on Bassai Dai - A kata we thought we all knew!

Thank you to everybody who supported the class and we look forward to seeing Sensei again very soon.

Dan, Evert, Adrian and Jake travelled to Scotland for the 2023 WTKO International Summer Camp (27th - 30th July) .  It was honour to be part of this year’s summer camp with world class tuition by Richard Sensei, John Sensei, Scott Sensei and Yanti Sensei supported by a wealth of knowledge from the other camp Sensei.

It was wonderful to catch up with old friends whilst making many new, all who just love karate - Let’s do it all again next year in Portugal.

Dan and Katie travelled to Basingstoke to train with Scott Langley Sensei and Ruadhán Mew Sensei - A wonderful 3 hours of intense, hot, sweaty, technical Karate.

Thank you to Amanda and Dave for hosting the event and a special thank you to Steve for his generous hospitality.

We had the pleasure of hosting Sensei Neil Cook from Norfolk Practical Karate.



Neil delivered a superb class exploring the kata principles of Bassai Dai via two person drills.

Once all our necks, wrists and shoulders have recovered we look forward to seeing Neil again in the very near future.

We were, once again, delighted to host WTKO Chief Instructor Sensei Richard Amos 8th Dan. This was Richard Sensei’s first visit of the year, with the focus of the class on the kata Nijushiho. Over the two hours, Richard Sensei had students working on specific drills and explore the katas unique bunkai to allow them to improve its final performance.

Congratulations to Richard, Tom and Nikki for passing their 1st Dan, along with Sarah and Wendy who passed 2nd Dan on Saturday 10th December 2022. The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Adrian Wise 2nd Dan and Michaela Wise 2nd Dan.

Each student showed the composure required during the intense grading process. Well done to you all!

On Tuesday 29th November an evening of inspirational tuition was delivered by WTKO Chief Instructor Sensei Richard Amos 8th Dan. Thank you to all our members and friends who attended the lesson. It was a wonderful night of karate. We are all looking forward to welcoming him back in the very near future

All 3 students had exceptional gradings; this was a testament to how hard they have worked in the lead up to today.

The grading was conducted by Sensei Dan Jones 5th Dan, Darren Abbs 4th Dan, Adrian Wise 2nd Dan and Michaela Wise 2nd Dan. A unanimous decision was easily reached.

At the conclusion of a recent class Darren (Yondan), Sharon (Sandan), Michaela (Nidan) and Adi (Nidan) were presented with their Dan Certificates from their hugely successful gradings in June.  Once again congratulations to you all.

A huge congratulations to Evert who passed his Sandan (3rd Dan) grading in Iceland during the WTKO International Summer Camp. Evert was tested by the WTKO Executive Committee of Sensei John Mullin 9th Dan, Sensei Richard Amos 8th Dan and Sensei Scott Middleton 7th Dan.

Congratulations to the senior SKN members who passed Dan gradings on Saturday 25th June 2022

Adrian and Michaela Wise - NIDAN PASS (2nd Dan)

Michaela passed her 1st Dan in 2018 and Adrian his in 2019; today they both showed the physical ability and technical knowledge to achieve 2nd Dan during a fantastic grading.

Sharon Hockaday - SANDAN PASS (3rd Dan)

Since passing her 2nd Dan in 2018, Sharon has shown the passion and determination needed to attempt 3rd Dan today; after a very strong, intense grading she passed with flying colours.

Darren Abbs - YONDAN PASS (4th Dan)

Darren passed 3rd Dan in 2018 under Richard Amos Sensei, Steve Ubl Sensei and George Best Sensei. Today, Darren was tested on all aspects of his karate, both physically in his Kata and Kumite performances but also detailed explanations of Bunkai and Tokui Waza.

A tough grading which he performed at a very high standard needed for such a senior grade.
